
Steven Russell consistently displays his versatility through a wide variety of musical endeavors
and a diverse background. Since 1998 he has used a wealth of talents to direct the music ministry at
St. Mary's Church, Colts Neck, New Jersey.Steven is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the New Jersey Gay Men's Chorus. in Princeton. He has previously directed the The Rutgers University Queen's Chorale and the Shrewsbury Chorale, and been Assistant Conductor of the Monmouth Civic Chorus. Steven has a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, magna cum laude, from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, where he studied conducting with Frauke Hasemann and Allan Crowell, studied piano with Harold Zabrack, and toured the U. S. and at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Italy with Joseph Flummerfelt and the Westminster Choir. He also has a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, where he studied conducting with Richard Westenburg, and organ with David Drinkwater. He also studied at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, where he toured with Paul Christiansen and the Concordia Choir. Steven and Mari-Jo Policastro have been performing as the piano duo Polymania since 1984. Steven is the proud owner of a 1956 Baldwin 7' grand piano. Steven is a member of: the American Guild of Organists, The Monmouth AGO Executive Board, the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America, GALAChoruses, The National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and NPM Trenton. Steven grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, and now lives with his partner, Joe, in Matawan, New Jersey.
